Einstein’s idea of general relativity got its first verification in 1919 when starlight passing near the solar was noticed during a photo voltaic eclipse. (See Determine 7.11.) During an eclipse, the sky is darkened and we will briefly see stars. Those on a line of sight nearest the sun should have a shift in their apparent positions. Not solely was this shift noticed, but it agreed with Einstein’s predictions well within experimental uncertainties. This discovery created a scientific and public sensation. Einstein was now a folks hero as well as a really great scientist. The bending of gentle by matter is equal to a bending of house itself, with gentle following the curve. That is another radical change in our concept of space and time. It is also another connection that any particle with mass or energy (e.g., massless photons) is affected by gravity.
Yet that was unattainable. For starters, such stationary fields would violate Maxwell’s equations, the mathematical legal guidelines that codified all the things physicists on the time knew about electricity, 相対性理論 崩壊 magnetism, and mild. The laws were (and are) quite strict: Any ripples within the fields have to move on the velocity of gentle and can’t stand nonetheless-no exceptions.
Those of you who’ve learn my work before will be amazed that I have made it this far on a post about physics with out mentioning the word symmetry. It’s time that I rectified that. To start with, I must ask what is a symmetry, and for that I have to first make clear the nature of a mapping.
